Theodosius Obelisk is carved in Egypt during the reign of Thutmose III at Karnak, Luxor . It was brought to Istanbul and was erected at the hippodrome in 390 during the rulership of Theodosius the 1st.

Theodosius Obelisk which is made of pink granite of rare quality stands on 4 bronze blocks on Roman pedestal embroidered with embossed figures. The Emperor, his family and members of the court are described on four sides of Obelisk base. There are two inscriptions in Greek and in Latin. It is possible to learn the social life in Constantinople in the 4th century thanks to the iconographie
