The Masonry Obelisk

One cannot say that The Masonry Obelisk ( named also Walled Obelisk or The Column of Porphyrogenitus and "Orme Dikilitas" in Turkish ) is a real obelisk. It is a monument woven from raw carved stones. Precise date of construction is not precisely known. The bronze sheets which used to cover it with golden letters is looted by the Christian Crusaders. The monument was also named as The Column of Porphyrogenitus after it was restored by Constantine VII Porphyrogenitus in the 10th century. It was restored once again in 1896.
