After the capital city change from Rome to Istanbul , Column of Constantine which was 35 meters long was erected in honor of the Roman emperor Constantine the Great in A.D.330.

The column is approximately thirty five meters long and was made from porphyry stone blocks. There was Constantine the Great sculpture on top . Later a cross was put on top of the column. This cross was removed after the conquest of Constantinople ( Istanbul ) by Ottomans. Since the column was cracked in due the earthquakes and the fire it was supported by the iron hoops after the order of Ottoman Sultan Mustafa III in 17th century.
